At our first three General Meetings, we got to hear some wonderful stories about many different aspects of chemistry! First we had Dr. Krishna Kallury's presentation highlighting "Food Chemistry and its Role in the Science of Food." During our second meeting, Ezra Pryor discussed Cannabis Chemistry and his mission to establish a new branch within the American Chemical Society supporting it. Then we had one of our very own, Dr. Tom J. Maricich, discuss his journey with, "The Evolution of a Research Career." Thank you so much to our speakers for sharing their stories and to all who attended! We kicked off the semester with a BBQ at Rynerson Park. The following week we toured to Grifols Biological, Inc. and got suited up to learn about plasma preparation and distribution. Just last week we got to tour the Orange County Sanitation District and learn all about the chemistry involved behind the scenes of how water gets recycled, and how our waste generates enough methane to power the entire process! A side product of these reactions is hydrogen gas -- hydrogen fueled cars are able to fill up right outside the OCSD, oh so cool. We had our first beach cleanup of the year down at Belmont Shores last month-- join us for our next Beach Cleanup this Saturday Oct. 17th! Send us an email if you're interested! Are you on our emailing list? Stay updated with SAACS by clicking ‘Club Membership’ and fill out a quick form! Hi everyone! With summer almost coming to an end and school just around the corner we would like to inform you on two important notes. First, we will be having our GARB sale on the second and third week of the Fall semester. For any one of you who are interested in helping the club please come and support us by purchasing our items we have for sale! You won't get a better deal anywhere else. Here is a flyer for the sale: Second, we have already made a list of events and important dates for the club. This schedule is subject to change if necessary and we will inform you of that change (assuming you are in our emailing list [if you aren't, send us an email: [email protected]]).
